Message from CIM President...
Hey All,
Greetings from the Cook Inlet Mountaineers. I know, who?? Well down here on the peninsula, we who love black powder and its related history have gotten together to form C.I.M. With 3 meetings under our belt and hoping to put on a great rondy Labor Day 2010, we were ?gently nudged? into one this year.
Six weeks notice and with my sister Christina and I as the ?experienced rendezvousers? we roped Dennis Davis into helping us tackle this monumental task. Clint Hlebechuk manned the phones to round up prizes?and did a fantastic job! We started the ball rolling. Little did Dennis know what all had to be done. Any one who has run one understands our dilemma.
Tim Pauloski of Chugiak ?misread? his calendar and showed up on August 28th, I believe?8 days early! What a heaven send was he!! So Dennis, Christina, Clint, Tim and myself (with the youngest being 50!) we worked?and worked hard!
We were able to provide free camping. Shooting events, hawk & knife, skillet toss, pot luck and council fire both Saturday and Sunday nights. We had close to three dozen spectators on Saturday at the range and around two dozen on Sunday. Keith Bayha was busy signing up new members for the NMLRA. Lots of new hopefuls for C.I.M. also. We got to meet so many souls who had not been able to rondy since their move up to Alaska. I hadn?t flapped my jaws that much in a long time!
The C.I.M. members could not keep the big prizes here (nice guns?3 of them!), but we gave those McKinley Mountain men a run for their money!! And if Sunday?s novelty shoot had been for longest run before a miss Keith? I would have beaten you with 9 in a row before I choked to your 5!!! Next year!!
Thank you to all who helped, showed up for the fun and food, and for the prayers of those who could not make it.
God Bless,
Sandy Thomas
2009 Interim President of Cook Inlet Mountaineers
